Stewardship: Giving as Worship

Stewardship: Giving as Worship

Stewardship is not first about money. Stewardship is about lordship.

Psalm 24:1 says,
“The earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness, the world, and those who dwell in it” (LSB).

Everything we have belongs to God. We are not owners. We are stewards. This reshapes how we view our finances, time, talents, buildings, budgets, homes, schedules, and opportunities.

In a healthy church, stewardship is not treated as an awkward subject or a fundraising tactic. Stewardship is discipleship. Jesus spoke often about money because money often reveals the heart.

Generosity is one of the ways God frees us from selfishness and teaches us to trust Him. Giving is not paying dues to a religious organization. Giving is worship. It is an act of faith that says, “Lord, all I have is from You, and I want my resources to serve Your kingdom.”

Churches must also practice stewardship corporately. That means financial integrity, transparency, wise planning, accountability, and mission-focused budgeting. A church should not hoard resources for comfort, nor spend carelessly for appearance. We must seek to use God’s resources for God’s purposes.

Healthy stewardship asks:
Are we supporting gospel ministry?
Are we caring for people?
Are we discipling the next generation?
Are we sending and supporting missions?
Are we maintaining what God has entrusted to us?
Are we planning with wisdom and faith?

Encouragement for the Church:
Generosity is not a burden when our hearts are captivated by grace.
God has given us Christ.
Everything else is stewardship.

A Step Forward:
Ask the Lord to help you view your resources as His.
Then consider one practical way to grow in generosity, faithfulness, or wise stewardship.
