Our Mission…

I am thinking lately of our mission from the Lord Jesus. What is that mission? We are to make disciples. Jesus himself issued the mandate in Matthew 28:19-20… “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The command is to make disciples. Thankfully, we are not left to wonder about how we are to do this. Jesus tells us plainly.
”… this tells us that we cannot be passive about making disciples. Jesus commanded us to go to our family, friends, neighbors, and to the world as we proclaim the Gospel message.
BAPTIZE”… to be baptized is to make a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. Our mission is not simply getting people to attend our church, it is about them coming to Jesus for salvation and uniting with Him & His body, the church.
TEACH”…The process of making disciples is NOT about getting people to make decisions about Christ. That is just the beginning! We are to be teaching them, discipling them. Helping them to grow and mature in the faith with Jesus. We have a responsibility to teach new disciples what it means to live as disciples of Jesus. The process of making disciples of Jesus is called discipleship. It takes time. It takes commitment. It takes all of us working together. So, are you growing in your walk with the Lord? Are you walking alongside of anyone else helping them to grow and mature in Christ?
Remember, you & I will never be finished as a disciple of Jesus. We all have room to continue growing & maturing.
Growing together,
Pastor Kevin
